MEBANE, N.C. — There is police activity near the flea market in Mebane and drivers are asked to avoid the area.

Orange County Sheriff Charles Blackwood reported on Twitter that there is police activity in the area of Buckhorn and Interstate 85. “Strong armed robbery suspects x 3 have run into the woods near flea market.”

The sheriff’s office said in a news release they are assisting Mebane Police with a robbery at the Petro Shopping Center Truck Stop at 500 Buckhorn Road in Mebane.

Deputies were called to assist shortly before 9:30 a.m. Wednesday after three men robbed a truck driver of an undisclosed amount of cash.

The driver was able to puncture a tire of the suspect vehicle, disabling it.

The three men ran from the area headed in the direction of West Ten Road.

People are asked to avoid the area if possible and to call 911 if they see or hear anything unusual.

Officials placed Gravelly Hill Middle School on a soft lockdown as a precaution.
