WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- Officials say there has been growth in the number of available city and county jobs in the Triad.

Right now, there are a total of 16 city jobs available in Winston-Salem.

"We have maintenance workers, light equipment operators, medium equipment operator, heavy equipment operator," said Ryan Newcomb, listing the job openings with the city’s street department.

Newcomb is the assistant director of the city’s department of transportation where the need for more workers is great.

City and county job growth is also been seen across the Triad.

Guilford County tops the list with 24 job openings, followed by 15 in Forsyth County, five in Rockingham County, and four in Alamance County.

"I think the need is greater this year," said Karen White, Forsyth County interim human resources director.

It is a need officials say is caused by openings left after employees move to different areas or out of the state.

A trend they hope to stop by creating more jobs at home.

"We're not like some of the larger companies,” White said. “We're not going to transfer to Charlotte or anywhere else. We're going to stay right here and help to grow our own community."
