Person struck, killed by Amtrak train in NC

ROWAN COUNTY, N.C. — A person was struck and killed by a passenger train in Rowan County Friday morning, according to WBTV.

Amtrak Train 19 was on its way to Charlotte when it struck the pedestrian around 2 a.m. on Peeler Road at South Main Street in Salisbury.

The train was on Norfolk Southern tracks at the time of the accident and the engineer contacted authorities.

Train  19 usually travels between New York and New Orleans. It was en route to New Orleans, Amtrak officials told WBTV.

No one on the train was injured.

Officials are investigating the incident.
