Person killed in Wilkes County runaway truck accident identified as Lexington man

WILKES COUNTY, N.C. — The person who was killed in a runaway truck accident in Wilkes County on Friday afternoon was from Lexington, according to Highway Patrol.

Jessie Lee Roach, 31, of Lexington, died at the scene in the 15000 block of U.S. 421 when the truck he was driving overturned on a runaway truck ramp between Wilkesboro and Boone.

Bryan Billings, 31, of Thomasville, was injured in the accident and remains in the intensive care unit at Johnson City (Tenn.) Medical Center.

Assistance was provided on the scene by Champion Fire Department, Wilkes Rescue Squad, Millers Creek Fire Department, Deep Gap Fire Department and Watauga Rescue.

This is the same spot as a similar crash several months ago, Wilkes County EMS said on Friday.
