Pedestrian killed in High Point wreck identified

HIGH POINT, N.C. — A pedestrian who tried to cross Business Interstate 85 Friday evening has died, according to High Point police.

Mitchell Wayne Dinkins, 33, of Trinity, was struck and killed by a 2011 Ford Focus driven by a Greensboro woman. The motorist was not injured, according to police.

Police said it was impossible for the motorist to avoid hitting Dinkins, who died at the scene.

Police were called to the southbound area of the road between Main and Brentwood streets exits, at 4:11 p.m.
