Pedestrian killed after being hit by car in Mount Airy

MOUNT AIRY, N.C. — Police said a pedestrian is dead after being struck by a car Tuesday night in Mount Airy.

Officials said 47-year-old Mount Airy resident James Hubert Barnes was pronounced dead at the scene after being hit by a 1998 Plymouth Voyager Van headed east on NC 89 near Beasley Street around 6:17 p.m.

Authorities said the incident remains under investigation.
