GREENSBORO, N.C. – A pedestrian was hit by a train and killed at Gillespie and Market streets shortly before 1:30 p.m. Saturday.

The Amtrak was headed westbound when it struck the pedestrian. The identity of the victim has not been released.

Amtrak officials said the train was operating from Raleigh to Charlotte and there were 103 passengers on board that were unharmed.

The train was delayed for almost three hours while the incident was under investigation. Greensboro police say the train stopped about a quarter of a mile away from the accident site.

The name of the victim has not been released. However, police confirm the deceased individual was wearing headphones at the time of the accident—but it’s unclear at this time if he was actually using them.
