Overturned tractor-trailer carrying chemicals closes Highway 29 northbound in Greensboro

GREENSBORO, N.C. -- One lane of Highway 29 northbound between East Wendover Avenue and Bessemer Avenue is closed after a tractor-trailer carrying chemicals overturned Wednesday morning at about 9:30 a.m.

Crews expect all lanes to reopen by about 8:40 p.m.

The driver was taken to Moses Cone and is in stable condition with injuries to his shoulder and side.

The tractor-trailer, from Brenntag Mid-South in Greensboro, was carrying sodium hydroxide, hypochlorite solution and potassium hydroxide.

A Hazmat team was at the scene and the NC Department of Transportation brought in a sand truck to safely clear the road.

The cause of the wreck is currently unknown.

The investigation is ongoing.
