BADIN LAKE, N.C. -- More than 50 wounded warriors and disabled veterans enjoyed a day on the lake fishing thanks to Operation North State's fourth annual Badin Lake Top Shelf Fishin' Festival.

"We realized how important recreation therapy was to them," said Terry Snyder, founder of Operation North State. "It's expanded to seven events across the state; there is nothing else like this in the country."

The impact of events like this goes deep for many veterans, including some who suffer from PTSD. "Some have told us that there have been times they were between suicide and do I move on."

Donations and volunteers help make it happen.

"I'm trying to pay these guys back for what they did for us," said Maynard Edwards, a volunteer from Lexington. "We're ready and equipped to help any veteran... any hero enjoy this day on the lake."
