BURLINGTON, N.C. — Officers were nearly struck by a vehicle suspected to be connected to a gunshot heard in the parking lot of Club Solo early Thursday morning.

Shortly before 2 a.m., police were on Saconn Drive regarding parking enforcement and were investigating a possible drug offense when they heard a single gunshot coming from the back parking area of Club Solo, located at 975 Kirkpatrick Road.

Several officers walked into the parking lot to investigate. A dark-colored Dodge Magnum came from behind the business. One of the occupants was seen reaching under the dashboard as the vehicle passed.

Officers ordered the vehicle to stop, but the driver accelerated, striking a parked vehicle before driving toward the officers.

In an attempt to stop the vehicle, two officers discharged their handguns at the vehicle. It is unclear if the vehicle or any suspects inside were struck.

The vehicle exited the parking lot, turning left onto Kirkpatrick Road and was last seen turning left onto Longpine Road.

At the time of the incident, the driver was described as a young black male in his early 20s wearing a red shirt. The vehicle also contained at least two other black males.

An investigation revealed that a disturbance occurred inside Club Solo and several patrons had been escorted out of the club just prior to the shot that was heard by officers.

The Burlington Police Department is asking anyone with information regarding the incident to contact the Burlington Police Department at 336-229-3530 or Crimestoppers at 336-229-7100.
