KERNERSVILLE, N.C. – A viral video shows a Kernersville woman flushing her “dead” fish down the toilet. But watch what happens right after she flushes.

Brooke Essick, 18, of Kernersville, went to put her pet fish Dane in a new bowl earlier this week when it happened.

“We had planned to just simply change Dane’s water,” Essick told FOX8. “But that quickly changed when Dane ‘died’ while being put in his new bowl with freshly changed water.”

Essick said that she and her friend had come to the conclusion that her pet fish had died. So they decided to have a “ceremony” for him in the bathroom.

“As soon as I hit the flush button, Dane began to swim again,” she said. “But… it was too late.”

Video of Essick’s comical reaction to the incident has gone viral. It can be seen above.

The entire thing was posted on Twitter, where the post got more than 7,000 retweets and nearly 10,000 likes.

The story has even been picked up by news outlets including Buzzfeed News and the Daily Mail in London.

“He was a great fish,” Essick said, adding that she already has another goldfish. “He lived a happy year!”
