MONROE, Conn. — A Connecticut store owner was surprised to learn that a statue of Jesus stolen from her business was returned with a fresh coat of paint.
Midge Saglimbene, owner of Monroe’s Angles and Company, received a call Sunday morning that the stolen statue was back.
Monroe police said the statue went missing sometime between Tuesday at 6:45 p.m., when it was last seen, and Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. when it was reported missing.
On Sunday morning, Saglimbene received word that the statue had been returned with a fresh coat of paint.
Saglimbene told WTNH, “Jesus has returned. No note was left, but we believe it to be the ‘Good Thief’ with good intentions, and we are grateful.”
The statue is valued at $600.
