WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (WGHP) — One person died in a crash in Winston-Salem on Tuesday, according to a Winston-Salem Police Department news release.
Around 1:08 p.m., officers responded to the 1800 block of East Fifth Street when they were told about a crash with injuries.
Arriving officers found a 2009 Dodge Charger that had crashed. The driver, a 44-year-old Winston-Salem woman, was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The front passenger, Montego Leon King, 50, of Kernersville, was pronounced deceased on the scene.
Investigators say the Charger was going west on East Fifth Street.
Police say the car went off the road to the right and hit a utility pole and tree. Speed is a contributing factor, the release says.
The 1800 block of East Fifth Street is shut down while the investigation and repairs to the utility pole and lines are completed.
