WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (WGHP) — Police investigated a shooting that injured two people in Winston-Salem.

At 12:47 p.m., officers with the Winston-Salem Police Department responded to a reported shooting at the entrance to Salem Garden Apartments.

Officers found a 42-year-old man near the leasing office who had been shot. EMS workers took him to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Officers also found a 19-year-old in a nearby vehicle. He had also been shot. EMS workers took him to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Officers identified Stephon Albright, 25, of Winston-Salem, as a suspect. He was found in the Piedmont Circle community with a 7.62 rifle and arrested.

Officers established probable cause to obtain a search warrant for an apartment on Piedmont Circle and located Mekeal Binns, 22, of Winston-Salem, in the apartment.

Officers seized a .45 caliber Glock handgun from the apartment when the search warrant was executed and arrested Binns.

He was charged with:

  • two counts of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury
  • discharging from within an enclosure
  • PWISD marijuana
  • possession of a firearm by a felon

Officers charged Albright with:

  • two counts of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury
  • discharging from within an enclosure
  • possession of a firearm by a felon

The bond is pending for Binns and Albright.

The investigation is ongoing.
