DAVIDSON COUNTY, N.C. (WGHP) — Over 40 dogs were seized from a Davidson County home, and animal cruelty warrants have been drawn for the owners, according to a Davidson County Sheriff’s Office news release.

On Friday, Davidson County deputies got a call asking for someone to come pick up over 40 dogs since the owner, Kristy Presnell, was in jail, and no one was available to care for the dogs. Ruff Love Rescue, who assisted the sheriff’s office, posted pictures of the dogs on Facebook.

Presnell’s husband, Joel Fesperman, told deputies he couldn’t care for the dogs since he was a long-haul truck driver. He said he wanted Animal Control officials to pick up the dogs.

The Presnells signed over all of the dogs to Animal Control, and officials picked up 42 dogs on Monday. Warrants were drawn for Presnell and Fesperman for cruelty to animals due to the living conditions and health of the dogs.

A representative with Davidson County Animal Shelter said all the dogs needed extensive medical care and various rescues across the area have stepped up to take them in and make sure they get the attention they need, as some were pregnant and many have skin and fur issues that must be addressed.

Stacy Draper, a volunteer with Ruff Love Rescue, one of the rescues that stepped in to assist, said that the age range of the dog was as young as 24 hours up to senior-aged dogs. There were 18 puppies and 10 newborn pups among the 43 rescued.

The dogs were all small-to-medium breeds like cocker spaniels, terrier mixes and chihuahuas. They were all friendly and Draper believes they’ll make great pets once they’re healthy enough to be adopted out.

Ruff Love Rescue wants to emphasize the importance of spaying and neutering pets. They are also taking donations in order to help out with the care of these dogs and other animals at their rescue.
