ASHEBORO, N.C. (WGHP) — One person was taken to the hospital after a vehicle crashed into a building in Asheboro on Monday, according to the Asheboro Fire Department.

Firefighters say that they arrived on scene to find someone trapped in a car that had driven on an embankment and partially into a Verizon building on Dixie Drive. The front of the vehicle was around 8 feet off the ground. The person inside the car was in critical condition when they were extracted through the rear hatch.

The Verizon building was evacuated for fear that the structural integrity of the building was compromised and aid was requested from other agencies due to the collapse and to assist with stabilizing the vehicle.

Randolph County EMS assisted to pull the person out of the car once the vehicle was stable and they were taken to the hospital.
