North Carolina man accused of assaulting news photographer filming house

ELIZABETHTOWN, N.C. — A man is accused of assaulting a news photographer who was shooting video of a house.

WRAL reported that Donald Hales, 67, of Bladen County, has been charged with assault inflicting serious bodily injury after he allegedly injured WRAL photographer Jay Jennings.

Jennings was on assignment at the time and shooting video of a home Tuesday near Elizabethtown.

A double-homicide occurred at the home decades ago and the man convicted in the killings was recently found innocent, according to WRAL.

The suspect is accused of hitting the victim with a crane, causing a head wound which required staples. He has been treated and released from a hospital.

Hales was given a $50,000 secured bond and placed under house arrest. He is is the grandson of one of the victims who was murdered in the original case.
