GREENSBORO, N.C. — Downtown Greensboro will have at least 150 more parking spaces as part of a North Carolina developer’s project.

The parking lot will be located on two acres near the intersection of Barnhardt Street and South Elm Street.

Momentum Development Partners will not only build the parking lot but also develop several buildings along Barnhardt, South Elm and Lewis streets.

Ed Wolverton with Downtown Greensboro Inc. said traffic in the area has boomed since the opening of the Mellow Mushroom in late 2008.

“We have seen a tremendous increase in people looking for spaces, so adding 150 to 200 spots in this location will be helpful for the businesses that are already there,” Wolverton said.

Some site work has started on the project. Wolverton said he hopes developers will begin building the parking lot in a few weeks.
