THOMASVILLE, N.C. – A new emergency notification service designed to keep everyone living in and traveling through Thomasville safe is up and running.

The city of Thomasville partnered with Nixle to provide the service that can call every landline phone number in the area and reach out to cell phones of people who sign up for alerts.

The system will notify people in the 27360 zip code about fire and police activity, weather events and other relevant issues around the city.

It can also send out notifications based on the location of an incident in the city to only notify those within a certain distance of an event.

And for people traveling through the area, maybe on I-85, the system will automatically send alerts to GPS devices and cell phones through Nixle’s partnership with Google.

The system costs Thomasville $6,000 per year to cover the entire 27360 zip code.

You can receive alerts from Thomasville by texting, Thomasville to 888777 from your mobile phone.
