LOUISBURG, N.C. — A North Carolina woman is heartbroken after her beloved pet dog was shot and killed during a home burglary.
WNCN reported that Jonsie Duke lost her 3-year-old German Shepherd Marley after somebody broke into her Louisburg home on Friday.
Duke said she returned home from work on Friday to find her home had been ransacked, with several items missing, including a TV and an XBox.
Marley had been fatally shot in the chest.
“I saw there was blood all over the shower curtain, and it was shut,” Duke said. “When I opened the shower curtain, he was dead in the bathtub.”
Duke has since buried Marley in the backyard with his favorite toys. She said her cat, Phil, was also injured.
“They robbed me,” Duke told WNCN. “They could’ve just left him in my bedroom and took everything. They didn’t have to kill him.”
No arrests have been made as Franklin County deputies continue to investigate.
