DAVIDSON, N.C. — The Internet is the great equalizer.
As recently as, say, 10 years ago, if you wanted to be famous or entertain thousands, you had to win a show like FOX’s famous, “American Idol.”
But the World Wide Web has changed that and a teenager from just south of the Triad proves that, if you have a winning personality and a few good video ideas, you can be one of the most well-known people on the planet – at least within your age demographic.
Nash Grier is the second-most followed person on the social media site, “Instagram,” (second to Kim Kardashian and tied with Justin Bieber) and the most followed person on the short-video site, “Vine,” with nearly 6 million followers.
“Some people just notice me and they’re like, ‘Hey, you’re that guy from the Internet,’ and they want to take a picture. And, then, there are people who really know my content and my stuff… and those people I can have a lot more fun with, have a conversation,” Grier said.
His oldest brother, Will, was named the Parade Magazine National Football Player of the Year. After playing high school football at Davidson Day School, he recently signed to play football at the University of Florida.
However, Nash is the one that gets recognized most often.
“This… may be the best-known guy in the family,” his dad said.
Nash Grier can be found on Vine, Instagram, YouTube and Facebook.
