SPRING LAKE, N.C. — Spring Lake police have arrested a 17-year-old in connection with a brazen kidnapping, robbery and sexual assault.

WTVD-TV reported that it happened at the intersection of McCormick Road and Hinkle Street on April 23.

Police say Christopher Scott Werley struck the victim on the head with a handgun then held her at gunpoint as he demanded her cell phone.

Authorities say Werley then forced the victim into the woods onto the Fort Bragg reservation and sexually assaulted her.

Werley was linked to the crime through a DNA sample.

Police say he lured the victim there through a Craigslist ad.

Werley is charged with first-degree kidnapping and robbery with a dangerous weapon. Sexual assault charges are pending right now.

Werley is being held in the Cumberland County Detention Center under a $500,000 bond.
