FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — A North Carolina teacher who resigned after allegedly having a sexual relationship with a student was arrested on Monday.

WRAL reported that Laura Garrigus, 30, of Fayetteville, faces four counts of taking indecent liberties with a student and two counts of sexual offense with a student.

The suspect worked as a teacher for the Cumberland International Early College in Fayetteville, but resigned in December, the same month the alleged victim told authorities about the allegations.

The allegations involved a 17-year-old female student and allegedly took place off-campus from October to December. No other students are believed to have been involved.

The suspect was placed in the Cumberland County jail under a $16,000 secured bond and has court planned for Tuesday.
