BRUNSWICK COUNTY, N.C. – A North Carolina teacher is accused of driving a motorcycle under the influence, going nearly double the speed limit.
WECT-TV reported that William Charles Bessmer was allegedly speeding on a motorcycle, traveling 103 mph in a 55 mph active work zone.
The suspect is a P.E. teacher at D.C. Virgo Elementary School in New Hanover County, according to New Hanover County Schools. Officials said there is no change to his employment status.
Police reports state the crime happened on Highway 74/76 near Leland and the suspect was arrested around 2 a.m. Saturday.
He has been charged with DWI, speeding in a work zone and careless and reckless driving.
