HAVELOCK, N.C. — A North Carolina tattoo artist has tattooed a 9-year-old albino horse in an effort to save the animal’s life.

The Jacksonville Daily News reported that Havelock-based tattoo artist Wayne Murray took a trip to Duplin County on Wednesday to help try to save the horse.

Mighty Whitey has a rare condition where he has virtually no skin pigmentation. This includes the skin around his eyes, which most horses have to protect them from the sun’s rays.

The black tattoo that Murray gave the horse will aid in the prevention of carcinoma. Without a protective ring around the horse’s eyes, it’s almost guaranteed that he will get cancer.

“I just want to help the horse,” Murray said, according to the paper. “Something I can do to help him.”
