CLYDE, N.C. — Authorities seized a foot-long baby alligator from a North Carolina resident after it was recently advertised for sale on

The Asheville Citizen-Times reported that the alligator sale was posted online earlier this week from a resident in Clyde.

Geoff Cantrell, spokesman for the N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission, told the paper Friday that he did not have details about the incident. He did say that no charges have been filed.

“Wildlife is a shared resource of all the people of North Carolina,” Cantrell said, according to the paper. “It’s not something you can just buy or sell without going through the proper channels.”

The Wildlife Resources Commission reportedly brought the alligator to the WNC Nature Center in Asheville on Thursday.

Officials said the alligator is about three or four months old. Adult alligators can grow to 10 feet or more.
