STOKES COUNTY, NC -- Stokes County residents aren’t giving up the fight to stop fracking from coming to North Carolina.

Tuesday, the NC NAACP held a news conference with residents opposing plans to drill a core hole on land along Crestview Dr. in Walnut Cove.

If shale gas is found, they’re concerned about the environmental impacts of hydraulic fracturing.

NC NAACP officials say they’re also opening a civil rights investigation, because the test drilling site is near a low-income, African-American neighborhood.

FOX8’s Stephanie Ando explains how the NC Department of Energy and Natural Resources selected the site in Walnut Cove.
