IREDELL COUNTY, N.C. — A North Carolina mother has admitted to assaulting her two children, ages 13 and 8, according to WSOC-TV.

Valerie Wirtheim, 30, of Iredell County, is accused of throwing her 13-year-old daughter on a bed and striking her head.

Deputies said when her 8-year-old son tried to stop her, she also hit him on the head.

Deputies said they noticed signs of assault on both children and said Wirtheim admitted to assaulting them.

The suspect was arrested Sunday. Authorities said that during her arrest, she became resistant and kicked a hole in the wall.

She was booked into the Iredell County Detention Center, charged with child abuse, resisting officers and injury to real property. Her bond was set at $4,000.
