RALEIGH, N.C. — A Raleigh mother is accused of leaving her 11-year-old son home alone for three days while she went on a vacation in Florida.

WRAL-TV reported that 34-year-old Laurel Clayton Schwartz has been charged with a misdemeanor count of child abuse.

The suspect allegedly left her juvenile son unattended at her Fanny Brown Road home while she vacationed in Orlando, Fla. from May 23 to May 26.

“The child did not eat on Thursday night, and the juvenile’s bedroom was an environment injurious to his welfare,” according to an arrest warrant issued by the Wake County Sheriff’s Office.

It remains uncertain why the suspect allegedly left her son home alone.

She was placed in the Wake County jail Thursday night without bond pending her first court appearance Friday.
