CUMBERLAND COUNTY, N.C. — A 23-year-old Cumberland County man was rescued Tuesday morning by federal and state officers after he said he was kidnapped in South Carolina.

The FBI told WTVD the unidentified victim was abducted last week from a home in Saint Matthews and then taken to a home in the Beaver Dam area.

Federal officers said the kidnapping was drug related, and initial ransom demand phone calls came from Mexico.

Agents say the kidnapping was part of an elaborate plot with international connections.

Three people have been arrested but no one has been identified.

Additional details are to be released by the FBI at a later date.
