FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — A 31-year-old Cumberland County father was found guilty of first-degree murder Monday in the beating death of his toddler son, according to WNCN.

Evans Aine II, of 2716 Edwards Avenue, Spring Lake, was convicted of the first-degree murder charge and felony child abuse by a Cumberland County Superior Court jury. He was sentenced to life in prison without parole, authorities said.

Authorities said Aine used a belt and his fist to beat his son Kaiden Demus.

Demus died from his injuries June 11, 2012.

Aine told investigators Demus fell on a sidewalk but an investigation proved that to be false.
