CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A Charlotte man has been charged with murder in the death of a pedestrian hit by a car a week ago.

Authorities say 21-year-old Stefano Kevin Jett was charged with murder on Saturday.

Jett was already in jail in connection with a Sept. 23 hit-and-run. Detectives were called after 45-year-old John Hazel Evans was hit by a car at the intersection of West Sugar Creek and Interstate 85.

Jett was jailed on charges of felony hit and run and driving while his license was revoked. After getting a tip, police said they pulled the car that hit Evans from a pond.

Evans died early Saturday, and Jett was charged with murder. It wasn’t known if Jett had an attorney.
