RUTHERFORD COUNTY, N.C. — A pair of North Carolina horses have formed an inseparable friendship that the owners say is nothing short of inspiring.
WLOS-TV reported that 2-year-old Luna is blind and 25-year-old Sugar Bear has become her guide.
Sugar Bear is more than just a seeing-eye horse, the two are constant companions and would be lost without each other.
In a video posted by Ellenboro Feed Livestock, Sugar Bear opens a barn door for Luna, who is following right behind and would likely run into the door without help.
Volunteers said it happens every morning and evening at meal time.
The non-profit Helping Hands Hearts and Hooves rescued both horses in May. Director Tina Hendrix said Sugar Bear calms Luna down.
Hendrix said the organization took Luna after she was auctioned to a kill farm but could not be loaded into the trailer.
Months ago, the young horse was excitable, nervous in confined spaces and scared of rain and thunderstorms.
But now, Luna stays next to Sugar Bear when it rains, Hendrix said.
