CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A female high school teacher and cheerleading coach in Charlotte was arrested after police say she had sex with a student.

WBTV reported that 43-year-old Kristina Ngum turned herself into authorities on Saturday after a warrant for her arrest was issued.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police alleged that Ngum had sex with the victim in an off-campus location. Authorities did not say when the alleged crime occurred.

Officials said they began investigating after the victim was arrested on an unrelated drug charge Friday. Police did not say how old the alleged victim was.

Ngum is the varsity cheerleading coach and is also listed as an Exceptional Children’s teacher at Myers Park High School.

Ngum was placed in the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office on a $2,500 secured bond.

She was also reportedly charged with larceny and obtaining property by false pretenses in 2011.
