GREENVILLE, N.C. – A North Carolina Halloween party of 3,000 people got so out of hand, authorities said windows were shattered, a bus was damaged and pepper spray and tear gas were deployed. reported that a violent and destructive riot broke out at a Greenville apartment complex around midnight on Halloween.

Police responding to the scene said they were forced to pepper spray and tear gas to break the riot up, after rioters started throwing debris at officers.

The large riot also resulted in an East Carolina University transit bus being damaged. The bus reportedly sustained significant body damage and also had glass that was broken.

“We are aware of the incident involving the bus and are working cooperatively with Greenville police, who are investigating it,” said director of ECU transit, Wood Davidson, according to

Several people were arrested. The incident has been described as a “riot” by numerous media outlets.

The incident remains under investigation. It remains uncertain what prompted the riot.
