EMERALD ISLE, N.C. — North Carolina’s gubernatorial hopefuls are campaigning this weekend.

Republican Pat McCrory is holding a Saturday evening event at an oceanfront camping and RV resort at Emerald Isle. Georgia Gov. Nathan Deal had planned to attend but had a scheduling conflict.

The rally was to be the latest by McCrory in which he’s brought in out-of-state GOP governors as his special guest. New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, South Carolina’s Nikki Haley and Wisconsin’s Scott Walker all have traveled to North Carolina in the past three weeks for rallies and fundraisers.

Democratic gubernatorial nominee Walter Dalton was scheduled Saturday night to speak at a Guilford County Democratic Party dinner and attend a fundraising dinner Sunday evening in High Point, sponsored by several North Carolina gay and lesbian community leaders.
