CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A North Carolina Girl Scout troop has lost nearly $100 after a man allegedly bought cookies from them with a counterfeit bill.

WBTV reported that the suspect approached the troop in Charlotte and pulled out a $100 bill, asking if they could make change.

The troop then gave him a box of cookies and $96 in cash, according to the TV station. The troop leader reportedly found out the bill was a fake after trying to deposit their earnings at a bank.

The teller told the troop leader the bill was a counterfeit and the troop leader then contacted police.
