FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — A Fayetteville couple was charged Friday with felony child abuse of a 2-year-old girl; one of the suspects was charged in 2002 with the death and sexual assault of another child almost the exact same age as this victim, according to WTVD.
Jimmy Tyron Baldwin, 48, was with the victim on June 11 before returning her to her biological mother, authorities said. The victim’s mother took the child to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center because she was “not acting right,” police said.
The victim was life-flighted to UNC Hospitals with life-threatening injuries caused by non-accidental trauma, investigators said. The child has since been released from the hospital, though her condition and injuries were not released.
Jimmy Balwin was charged in 2002 with the death and sexual assault of an 18-month-old child that occurred in 1998. He pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and was released from prison in 2008. Detectives did not say what his relationship is with the victim.
