A North Carolina city has been named the 12th best place in the country to live.

Livability.com has released its second annual list of the “Top 100 Best Places to Live,” which looks at small to midsize cities across the country.

Asheville was named No. 12 on the list. Durham was the second highest ranking North Carolina city at No. 29. Chapel Hill came in at No. 62.

The website said the following about Asheville:

Nicknamed “Land of the Sky,” Asheville is a picturesque city that welcomes many tourists who visit attractions like nightclubs, performance venues and microbreweries. A high-achieving public school system is in place along with the University of North Carolina at Asheville, and a strong health-care network includes Asheville VA Medical Center and Mission Health System.

More than 2,000 cities were ranked. They all had populations between 20,000 to 350,000 people.

The researchers came up with the rankings by looking at factors including community amenities, education, sustainability, transportation, housing and the economy.

Madison, Wisconsin took the No. 1 spot, followed by Rochester, Minnesota; Arlington, Va.; Boulder, Colo.; Palo Alto, Calif. and Berkeley, Calif.
