GREENSBORO, N.C. – A 21-year-old N.C. A&T University student is in the hospital after he says he was beaten at an off-campus party early Sunday morning.

Thomas Bynum is a junior applied engineering technology student who's a leader with the campus NAACP student group.

Greensboro police confirm they responded to a report of a fight at 421 South Booker Street around 2:15 a.m. EMS arrived three minutes later.

"He was at a party off campus for the football team," said Bynum's mother Sidrane.

She says her son accidentally bumped into someone at the party and the other guy started shoving Thomas.

"The guy turned around and pushed him again. He pushed him two times. They had words and when the guy went to push him a third time, my son hit him. When he hit the guy, at that point he said that's when they started beating on him," she said.

Thomas said 10 to 15 people beat him and pushed him down three flights of stairs.

"He actually had to crawl under a car in order for them to stop beating him," Sidrane added.

Thomas was in the hospital Sunday with bruises and scratches on his head and body. His mother said he was under observation, and they aren't sure when he'll be released.

N.C. A&T officials told FOX8 they could not confirm anything about the fight other than it happened off campus. They could not say which, if any, students were involved or facing discipline.

Greensboro police said when they arrived, people at the party claimed they didn't see anything.

"Somebody saw something," Sidrane insisted.

She is also a student at the university and says no one outside of city and campus law enforcement has contacted her about what happened. She wants to talk to officials at the school.

"It's not gonna end here. I think everyone involved should be expelled,” Sidrane said.
