UPDATE: NC A&T students to hold memorial for slain student

GREENSBORO, N.C. — A student at North Carolina A&T is dead following an early-morning shooting in Greensboro .

Dorian Tawan Edwards, 19, of Atlanta, Ga., died after being taken to the hospital.

Counseling services will be open at the college from 3 to 6 p.m. for students impacted by his death. A&T students will hold a memorial at 8:30 p.m. at the reflection pool on campus.

The incident happened at about 12:30 a.m. Sunday. Greensboro police responded to the 1400 block of Perkins Street in reference to shots being fired at a party.

At the scene, officers found a man suffering from a gunshot wound. Edwards died while being treated for his injuries.

Police say the homicide was preceded by an altercation between people at the party.
