STOKESDALE, N.C. - Multiple people were injured in a crash that involved a bus early Sunday morning on Hwy. 158 in Stokesdale.

Crews responded to the scene shortly after 7 a.m. after authorities said a Chevy Blazer headed northeast on Hwy. 158 crossed the center line in the area of 9010 Hwy. 158.

The bus went to the right to try to avoid the crash and the two collided, causing the bus to overturn, according to Trooper J.T. Mitchell with the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.

Seventeen people were injured at the scene, including 15 from the bus and two from the Blazer, according to Mitchell.

Fifteen were taken to hospitals by an ambulance and two were airlifted. The driver of the Blazer and a small child in the Blazer were injured, with the driver being serious.

The van contained one serious injury and others having minor injuries, according to Christopher Knox, North Carolina State Highway Patrol master trooper.

The patients were taken to hospitals including Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center, Cone Hospital and High Point Regional. Six adults and one child were taken to Cone. There were no fatalities.

It remains uncertain if drugs or alcohol were factors. The wreck is still under investigation and charges are expected.

Hazmat was called out in reference to a fuel spill involving the bus.

Hwy. 158 between Kelly Lee Drive and NC-65/Belews Creek Road is closed, but should reopen by about 1:14 p.m.
