GREENSBORO, N.C. — All lanes on Interstate 40 West in Greensboro have reopened after a crash involving a tractor-trailer carrying steel pipe and nine other vehicles this morning.

All westbound lanes of I-40 were closed at Freeman Mill Road for most of the morning and into the afternoon. The lanes reopened around 2:30 p.m.

Officials said only four minor injuries were reported.

Authorities say a crane was required to remove the 30 to 40 foot pipes from the roadway.

Greensboro Police assisted with cleaning up fuel that spilled on the interstate.

Traffic was diverted from I-40 West to Business I-85 South (Exit 219) to I-73 North (Exit 33) back to I-40 West (Exit 103B).

DOT officials said the crash involved an overturned tractor-trailer and ten other vehicles.

Earlier, a separate crash was reported on I-40 East shortly after 8 a.m. at mile marker 219 near Business I-85.  The left lane was closed for a brief period of time. That lane has since been reopened.

No other information has been provided.
