Motorcyclist crashes after leading troopers on I-77 high-speed chase

CORNELIUS, N.C. — A motorcyclist crashed on Interstate 77 south Tuesday night in Cornelius after leading state troopers on a high-speed chase.

All lanes were closed at about 9:30 p.m. near West Catawba Avenue. The scene was cleared for traffic by 11 p.m.

State troopers said they tried to pull over a speeding motorcycle driver in Mooresville.

They said Jeffrey Rion lead them on a chase for six miles — traveling at speeds upwards of 130 mph.
