LANCASTER, Calif. — A mother said she is horrified after her 5-year-old son found a hidden camera in a Starbucks bathroom in California.
KTLA reported that the young boy made the discovery earlier this week at a Starbucks in Lancaster, Calif.
The camera was apparently under the sink, propped up by paper towels and pointing toward the toilet.
The unidentified mother said her son asked her what it was and she immediately notified employees who contacted the sheriff’s department.
The mother described the incident as a “violation of privacy” for both her and her son.
“The deputies discovered that the cellphone was running in a video-recording motion,” said Lt. Joseph Fender with the Lancaster Sheriff’s Station.
It was not clear where the video was being sent or how long the phone may have been recording, according to authorities.
Officials said Friday that they were not sure what the contents of the video were.
Starbucks spokesman Jaime Riley reached out to KTLA saying, “We are disturbed by this incident and take our obligation to provide a safe environment for our customers and partners (employees) very seriously. Our store partners took swift action as soon as they became aware of the incident by immediately alerting the Sheriff’s Department of the situation.”
