ALBUQUERQUE, N.M — Police arrested a 10-year-old New Mexico girl’s mother, her boyfriend and his cousin in connection with her death after they allegedly injected her with meth before sexually assaulting and killing her.

KOAT reports that 35-year-old Michelle Martens and her boyfriend, 31-year-old Fabian Gonzales injected her with meth to calm her down before the girl was sexually assaulted by Gonzales and his 31-year-old cousin Jessica Kelley. The young girl was then killed.

The police were initially called to an apartment at about 4:30 a.m. Wednesday morning on an aggravated battery call, and found the girl once they arrived.

“What happened to this little girl is… Horrific. It’s one of the worst things I’ve read in my entire life,” said Albuquerque police spokesman Tanner Tixier, according to KOAT.

Martens and Gonzales are both charged with kidnapping. Gonzales and Kelley have been charged with criminal sexual penetration of a minor, child abuse with great bodily harm or death, tampering with evidence and several other unnamed charges.

Police have not released the name of the girl.
