Power restored to most of Fosyth County, many in Surry still without it

Thousands of people in Forsyth County and Surry County were without power Sunday afternoon, but many of the outages have been restored.

Almost all the 3,200 people in Forsyth County that lost power on Sunday have their power back. There is still about 1,600 people without power in Surry.

The first outage was reported in Forsyth shortly after 11:30 a.m. In Surry, it was about 12 p.m. There is no word on when power will be back in Surry.

The outages were caused by inclement weather, according to Ana Gibbs, Duke Energy spokeswoman.

Snow and sleet fell across the mountains and foothills early Sunday morning and the Piedmont saw some freezing rain.

Forsyth and Surry were both under a Winter Weather Advisory on Sunday morning. The advisories have since expired.
