VINITA, Okla. — A mother in Oklahoma posted graphic photos of her sons’ sunburn after they returned from a field trip with their daycare.

Shaunna Broadway told BuzzFeed Life that two of her boys, ages 5 and 7, suffered second- and third-degree burns during a trip to a local water park with their daycare.

WARNING: These photos are extremely graphic.

Broadway said she took the boys to Happiness is a Learning Center at 9 a.m. and when she returned to pick them up at 5 p.m. they were crying because of their burns.

“[The employees] were actually making fun of my older son, because both boys got sunburns but he was being a ‘baby’ and crying about it,” she told BuzzFeed Life.

The daycare staff told Broadway her boys were told to keep their clothes on because the staff didn’t have sunscreen with them at the waterpark. They said her sons didn’t listen and got burned as a result.

“It was common sense that they shouldn’t have been out in the sun all day, even if they wore their clothes,” Broadway told BuzzFeed Life. “The heat index was 118 degrees in Vinita that day. The news was telling us not to be outside.”

By Saturday, the burns blistered and Broadway had to take her kids to the hospital because they were in extreme pain.

Even after treatment, Broadway said the boys were still in pain and one was having trouble breathing.

The following day the boys were flown to Shriners Hospital for Children in Galveston, Texas.

The family has since filed a police report and is planning to hire an attorney.

“We’ve been conducting interviews at the day care, the hospital and with other parents to see if there’s anything that leads us to conclude it was neglect or child abuse,” Officer Bobby Floyd told BuzzFeed Life.

The boys will remain at Shriners Hospital until they are stable enough to return home.
