DENVER, N.C. — A mother and her daughter died following a wreck on N.C. 150 in Catawba County.

Tisa Michelle Strickland, 26, and her 1-year-old daughter, Payton Michelle Dellinger, both died after their car collided with a tractor-trailer about four miles west of Lake Norman around 8 a.m. Wednesday, according to troopers with the N.C. Highway Patrol.

Troopers said it appears Strickland’s car crossed the center line.

Witnesses told WSOC-TV that it appeared Strickland was trying to get around another car.

The area where the crash happened is a passing zone, the station reports.

The truck driver was taken to a hospital for treatment of injuries that were not life-threatening.

The crash shut down the section of highway for nearly six hours.
