CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (AP) — Michelle Obama wants students at the University of North Carolina’s flagship campus to work hard for her husband and make sure they or their friends are ready to vote as in-person early balloting begins Thursday.

The first lady was scheduled to hold a rally Tuesday at UNC-Chapel Hill’s Carmichael Arena, the same place where President Obama spoke this spring to build support for getting Congress to extend low-interest student loans.

The first lady held a similar get-out-the-vote rally at the North Carolina Central University gym in Durham last month.

The Chapel Hill event will mark the 12th time Mrs. Obama has visited the state since becoming first lady.

Tuesday’s speech will be hours before the president and Republican nominee Mitt Romney hold a televised debate in New York.
